It all started when…

As a supporter of many local tourist and cycling organisations we welcome the many cycling visitors to our area of West Sussex.

Although off-road cycling is not allowed on parts of the Ashdown Forest, you are of course allowed to ride on the many public bridleways and surrounding roads.

Regular road rides on Saturday and Sunday are organised by many of the cycling clubs in the area information about these can be found on the clubs websites.

There are two family friendly off-road cycleways that follow the old railway line routes, both are part of National Cycle network route 21. The Forest Way runs for 10 miles from East Grinstead to Groombridge through Forest Row and Hartfield. You can join this along the route or from East Grinstead just off the A22 or from Herontye Drive leaflet containing map is here or link to website

In the other direction is the Worth Way from East Grinstead to Three Bridges and runs out for 7 miles via Crawley Down. Access from the East Grinstead end is from the Railway Station Car Park a leaflet containing a map is here or link to the website

Please note both are shared paths used by walkers and horse riders so please respect other users.

For the more energetic we can advise on local cycle racing while you are in the area. Many local cycling clubs organise evening time trials during the summer and Surrey League and South East Road Race League organise road racing events.
